Face Painter

The Face Painter inspects and sets each panel's face (inside or outside) - the metadata that tells nesting and the DXF export which side of the panel the drawing is viewed from and which side's machining exports. Activate it from the Cabybara toolbar or menu ("Face Painter").

The states

• Inside (blue) / Outside (green) - the stamped value.
• UNSET (orange) - no value stamped yet. Nesting refuses to run while any panel is unset ("Nesting requires panel face metadata for all panels..."), which is what this tool exists to fix. Every panel type has a sensible default (doors and fronts default to outside, except drawer fronts, which are structural and default to inside; everything else defaults to inside) shown in the tooltip as "default
  • not stamped yet".

Panels adopted from plain components arrive stamped inside, not unset.

Painting

Hover a panel: the reference faces of the resolved side highlight in the state color, and the tooltip shows the face (with warnings when the side was inferred from geometry, or when the instance is mirrored so stored sides may be inverted).

• Click - an unset panel gets its default stamped; a stamped panel toggles inside/outside.
• Alt+Click sets Inside directly; Ctrl+Click Outside.
• Drag paints the first click's value across panels.
• Shift+Click applies to every panel of the hovered type in the hovered cabinet (one undo step).
• Shift (hold) - model overview with counts; the orange panels are the ones nesting will refuse. Shift also arms the whole-type click.
• Measurements box: type i or o to set the hovered panel.

Hardware is blocked (faces do not apply). One undo step per panel, one per batch.

The machining warning

Grooves and pockets are side-specific: only the ops on the selected face export to DXF. A click that flips a machined panel warns, e.g. "2 machined op(s) on the Outside face will NOT export while the face is Inside", and a whole-type flip reports how many panels are affected. Drag painting applies without the warning, so double-check machined panels after drag sweeps.

Panels with side-specific machining are also never mirror-placed during nesting, regardless of grain.
