The Materials Manager browses every material the plugin can see and is where you create and organize your own. Open it from the Cabybara toolbar or menu ("Materials"); the window is titled "Cabybara Materials".
Sources
One thumbnail grid merges three sources, each badged on its card:
- Library - the .skm files in your own materials folder (set in Settings, Materials tab; the "Open Folder" button opens it). Scanned recursively; only .skm files count. The material's display name is the file name, so renaming the file renames the material.
- In model - materials present in the open SketchUp model.
- SketchUp Libraries - the materials installed with SketchUp, grouped under collapsible collection headers (e.g. "Wood") that start collapsed; searching expands and flattens them.
The header has a live search box, a source filter (All sources / My Library / In Model / SketchUp Libraries) and a refresh button that re-scans all three sources. Thumbnails load lazily as you scroll and are cached on disk; a failed thumbnail is retried on refresh.
Cards
Each card shows the thumbnail, name and source badge. Extra markers:
- A green chip like "default: frame" marks a material set as a category default (frame, door, fiber, shelves, drawer frame). The chips are display-only here - defaults are set in Settings, Defaults tab, and they pre-select materials in the cabinet dialog.
- Model materials show a usage link: click it to count and select every panel using that material ("Selected N panel(s) using NAME" / "Nothing uses NAME").
Card actions:
- Paint - activates the Materials Painter with this material active (or retargets it if already running).
- + Library (model and SketchUp entries) - copies the material into your library folder as an .skm ("Imported NAME into the library"; refuses duplicates with "Already in the library").
- Delete (library entries only) - deletes the .skm from your library folder after confirmation. Permanent, and never touches the model or SketchUp's own libraries.
Creating a material
"+ New Material" opens the create form:
- Name - required; becomes the .skm file name (a file with the same name is refused).
- Type - Solid color (with a color picker) or Texture image (Browse accepts jpg, jpeg, png, bmp, tif, tiff).
- Tile size - for textures: the physical area one image tile covers on the panel, in mm (default 600 x 600). Image resolution only affects sharpness - a 512 px and a 4K image both stretch to this size.
Create adds the material to the model and saves it as an .skm in your library, so it is available in every project. Advanced texture editing (rotation, opacity, and so on) stays in SketchUp's native materials tray.
Footer actions
- Open Folder - opens the library folder in the file browser (creating it first if needed).
- Purge Unused - removes model materials not applied to anything, after a confirmation stating the count. Only the current model is affected - never your library files or SketchUp's installed libraries.
Escape closes the create form if open, otherwise clears the search. An open Material Picker refreshes automatically after any create, import or delete here.
