Materials Painter

The Materials Painter applies materials to panels by pointing and clicking. Activate it from the Cabybara toolbar or menu ("Materials Painter") - it opens its companion Material Picker window automatically - or click Paint on any card in the Materials Manager to start it with that material active. Closing the picker exits the tool; Escape or choosing another tool exits too.

Painting sets the component's SketchUp material, exactly what the native paint bucket sets - one undo step per panel.

The Material Picker window

A searchable thumbnail grid of all three sources (My Library / In Model / SketchUp), with the same collection grouping as the Materials Manager and a "Manage Materials..." footer button that opens it. Clicking a card makes it the active material immediately. The dashed "Remove material (reset to default)" row switches to remove mode: clicks then clear the panel's material back to the plain SketchUp default look.

A model material with the same name as a visible library file is shown once (they resolve to the same material); the In Model filter still lists it. Escape clears the search.

Painting

Hover a panel: it highlights with the action color, the tooltip shows its current material (and how many inner faces are painted directly), and the status bar shows the active material and the modifier hints.

  • Green - the click will paint the active material.
  • Blue - the panel already has the active material.
  • Purple - eyedropper mode (Alt held).
  • Red - remove mode.

Click paints the hovered panel; drag keeps painting each panel you cross. Plain components that are not Cabybara panels can be painted too; raw groups and loose geometry cannot.

Modifiers

  • Ctrl+Click - paint and also reset directly painted inner faces. A component's material only shows on faces that still carry the default material, so a panel whose faces were painted individually (e.g. with the native bucket) would otherwise ignore the new material.
  • Shift+Click - paints every panel of the hovered type inside the hovered cabinet in one undo step ("3x Side Panel" style message). Does nothing on a component that is not inside a cabinet.
  • Alt+Click - eyedropper: samples the hovered panel's material and makes it active. A panel with no material reports "Panel has no material (default look)".

Remove mode

With the picker's remove row selected, clicks clear the hovered panel's material ("Cleared Side Panel"), and Shift+Click clears a whole type. On a panel whose inner faces were painted directly, a plain remove click changes nothing visible - add Ctrl to the click to clear those faces too and reach the true default look.

Removing returns panels to the SketchUp default look - not to their stock's material. To restore the stock look, re-assign the stock with the Stock Painter (with its "Apply stock material on paint" option on).
