Cabybara is licensed to an account, and each computer is paired to that account once. After pairing, the plugin keeps working without an internet connection for as long as your subscription allows.
Your subscription decides the rules, not the plugin. How many computers you can pair at the same time, how long you can keep working offline, and whether your account has to check in every time SketchUp starts are all set by your plan and enforced by the license server. The window shows your plan name, Subscription until (the date your account is paid through, including any payment grace days) and Works offline until (how long this computer can run before it next needs to check in - that date moves forward at every renewal). Accounts that check in at every launch show "Checks in at every launch" instead. The limits themselves live on the server, so check your plan for the specifics.
Open the license window from Extensions > Cabybara > License..., or from Settings > About > Manage License....
Activating this computer
There is no license key to type and no serial to keep. You approve the computer from your browser; the lesson Activate this computer walks through it step by step. What the walkthrough leaves out:
- Closing the window only pauses the attempt: reopen it and the same code carries on, under "Resumed pending activation. Approve it in your browser." Cancel Activation abandons it and gets you a fresh one.
- A code left unapproved expires after about fifteen minutes: an open window says "Activation window expired. Start again.", and if you had closed it, reopening simply shows Not activated.
- A refusal is reported in the browser, not in the plugin, which simply keeps waiting. The usual reason is that the account has no free computer slot: unpair a machine you no longer use, from its own license window or from your account's device list if that computer is gone, then start again.
The window
Status, Account, Plan, Subscription until, Works offline until and This computer (the name this machine is paired under, usually the computer's name on the network).
Before pairing you get Activate This Computer, which becomes Cancel Activation while a code is out. Once this computer is paired you get Check License Now and Unpair This Computer. The Error state offers nothing at all, and Clock problem offers only Activate This Computer, though correcting the clock is what actually fixes it.
Working offline
Activation leaves a signed license on this computer, so day-to-day work needs no connection. The plugin renews it quietly in the background whenever you are online, well before it runs out.
How long that license lasts offline comes from your subscription. Some accounts are instead set to check in at every launch, and those need a connection when SketchUp starts. Either way, if the license lapses before it can renew, features stop until you reconnect: accounts that check in at every launch show Online check required, and the rest show Subscription problem with "License needs to renew. Connect to the internet." Check License Now forces the check immediately.
Keep the system clock roughly right. Ordinary drift is fine, but a clock that is badly wrong stops the license from validating: set back, it is reported as a Clock problem; set forward past the date in Works offline until, the license reads as expired and the licensed features stop, some of them reporting a license check failure. Correcting the clock clears both.
What needs a license
Nearly everything: cabinet creation, Kitchen Layout, Create Panel, the Decor Sculptor, the Stock Painter, the panel tools, the materials manager and painter, the Components Manager, the Pricing Overlay, Customer Pricing, Nesting, the Production Report and the Label Printer. Choosing any of them while unlicensed opens this license window instead of the feature.
A few things stay open, so that a lapsed subscription never locks you out of your own setup: Settings, which is also how you reach this window, and the Stock Catalog, so you can still read and export the prices you entered. Make Selection Unique stays open too, since it only wraps SketchUp's own Make Unique.
Statuses
- Licensed - working normally, online or off.
- Not activated - this computer is not paired yet. You will also see this if the computer was removed from the account elsewhere; activate it again.
- Activation in progress - a code is out and waiting for approval.
- Subscription problem - the license could not be renewed, and the line underneath says why: it ran out of its offline time, the subscription expired, a plugin update is required, or the license data is out of date or damaged.
- Online check required - your account has to check in with the server at every launch and has not managed it yet. Reconnect.
- Clock problem - the system clock is set too far back. Correct it.
- Error - the license system could not run. Follow the line underneath: restart SketchUp, or reinstall the plugin if it says to.
If a licensed feature reports "License check failed. Open Extensions > Cabybara > License.", open this window and press Check License Now if it is offered; otherwise the Status row says what to fix.
Moving to another computer
Press Unpair This Computer and confirm. That frees the slot on your account, and this machine needs activating again before it can use the licensed features. Unpairing needs a connection: if it cannot reach the server it says so and leaves the pairing in place, so try again later rather than assuming the slot is free.
